Dec 13 2004, 05:27 AM Game: Kenny's Last Stand Creator: Dowdy Genre: Platformer Description: Kenny has been kidnapped. Help the gang fight off waves of bullies in the hope to find him. Rating: 52% Review: As I was browsing SPG Archives back in the days when it just opened (we're talking about 2002 here), I fell into some new games that I didn't played yet and thought it'd be a good thing to spring some life up the reviews section. Kenny's Last Stand is your average platform game with platforms, enemies shooting at you, and...that's about it. The game's not necessarly bad because of it's standardness, hell Commander Stan 1 was a really basic game, but damn it was a fun little game. It's brought down by standard enemy AI and the annoying bugs commonly ran upon across TGF/CNC games using the standard platform engine. The enemy behavior is limited to run on small platforms and shoot randomly an ugly laser at you, and when they are off-screen they do try to shoot, but since the game doesn't handle right the objects away from the playfield, you'll sometimes get slayed by an incredible ammount of lasers coming at you from nowhere. There's also a small "Whack-A-Mole" level in which you need to whack small Kennys as fast as you can, but since when did all moles stay motionless above their holes, waiting to be whacked? /me wonders. Graphics, for the most part, are decent. However, the levels are sparsely decorated and some floor tiles look bad. The health counter is also ridiculous, as it is a single red number hanging in the screen. An horizontal bar would have been better, or maybe he could have used a health purcentage. The cutscenes are acceptable. There's no sound effects present within the game, and the only audio supplement in the game are some Midi Database rock band MIDIs. I'm so sick of hearing these tunes over and over again in most SPGs since people seem to think it's so cool to put in some Blink 182, The Offspring, and all other rock bands alike MIDIs. Get some originalty, people! Sites like http://www.vgmusic.com got a lot of cool songs for your games, and there's thousands of them. Plus they are variated! smile.gif Kenny's Last Stand is not an horrible game, but it's below average though. The standard action, buggy levels, so-so graphics and a very small game length won't keep your attention for long. There's nothing bad with small games... they can be fun and cool, but try to get better ideas for these. I hope the sequel will be better.
